Letters of Impact: Kim Marcy's Story from the Philippines

Here at Mosaic International, we believe in the power of local churches to be the hands and feet of Jesus, and that belief comes to life through the courageous leaders we serve around the world.

This week, we continue our Letters of Impact series with a heartfelt message from Kim Marcy, a community leader serving in Albay, Philippines. Her handwritten note captures the incredible ripple effect that happens when the global Church partners together to serve the least of these.

From beautifying schools to bringing hope to children, Kim's words remind us that every act of generosity, no matter how small it may seem, creates waves of transformation that reach far beyond what we can see.

This Week's Letter: Kim Marcy – Philippines

Kim's handwritten letter offers a window into the real, tangible impact your support is making in one of the Philippines' most vulnerable communities.

Her words overflow with gratitude, and as we read them, we're reminded of something even greater: this is what Jesus does. He takes our simple offerings, our time, our resources, our willingness to show up, and multiplies them into something miraculous. He takes what seems small and makes it eternal. We as His followers provide the 5 loaves and 2 fish and let Him do the rest!

Kim's letter isn't just about what we've done. It's about what Jesus is doing through ordinary people who say yes to His call. It's about a Savior who sees every child, every need, every corner of His creation, and invites us into the sacred work of restoration.

More About Our Work in the Philippines

The Philippines is home to well over 7,000 islands and is one of the most dynamic economies in the East Asia Pacific region. This nation is full of resilient and joyful people; however, the challenges of poverty, human trafficking, and education remain major hurdles.

19.8% live below the poverty line108 million population 261,000 people trapped in modern slavery

Thankfully, there are much more than 7,000 churches who God can use to make a holistic impact in their communities. And that's exactly what we're partnering with them to do.

The Albay Dream Center: Where Jesus Grows His Kingdom

The Albay Dream Center in Tabaco City is more than just a building, it's a place where Jesus is writing stories of redemption every single day.

The Dream Center is home to Pastor Edwin & Jo Dueñas' church, a preschool serving vulnerable children, an after-school student center, and a multipurpose facility for trainings, guest housing, food distribution, and emergency shelter during typhoons.

Through partnerships with local schools like Pinagbobong Elementary School (mentioned in Kim's letter), the Dream Center extends its reach into the broader community. Here, children don't just receive help, they encounter the God who sees them, knows them, and has plans for their future.

The beautification projects, educational support, and consistent presence of caring adults are creating an environment where young people can experience firsthand that they are loved by a Father who will never leave them.

Meet Our Key Partners: Pastor Edwin & Jo Dueñas

Edwin and Jo Dueñas are our key partners in the Philippines and the visionaries behind the Dream Center movement. Their love for missions within the Philippines began in 2001 when they served on a medical mission under Asian Relief Medical Services (for which they are now national coordinators). Edwin studied at Fuller Theological Seminary and returned to the Philippines with a clear mission: to assist and impact low-income youth, giving them a better chance at a prosperous future.

Together with Mosaic, Edwin and Jo have made an enormous impact through typhoon relief, medical missions, food distributions, and the establishment of Dream Centers. But more than programs or projects, they are shepherds who reflect the heart of Jesus to everyone they meet, and watching Jesus work through them is nothing short of inspiring.

The Sherman Family

Pastor Mark and Brittany Shuman and their family moved to the Philippines this year to serve as Mosaic's missionary family on the ground. As Kim Marcy mentioned in her letter, their presence and support have already made a profound impact in Albay and beyond. Their willingness to relocate and serve sacrificially is a beautiful picture of what it means to follow Jesus wherever He leads.

Our Founder Mark Sherman since relocating to the Philippines has been sending us updates in his "Messages from Mark;" read them below.
