How to Become a Mosaic Ambassador (Even If You've Never Fundraised Before)

Most people assume that making a difference overseas requires something they don't have. More money. More time. A seminary degree. A stage.
Here's what we've learned after years of partnering with local churches around the world: the people who make the biggest difference are usually ordinary people using something they already love. A birthday. A morning run. A bake sale. A Bible study that decided to rally around a cause together.
That's what a Mosaic Ambassador is. And if you've ever wondered how to get involved beyond giving, this is the simplest place to start.
What is a Mosaic Ambassador?
A Mosaic Ambassador is someone who invites others into what God is already doing around the world. That's it.
Some ambassadors host fundraisers. Some volunteer at events. Some pray faithfully when we share requests from the field. Some simply forward an email to a friend or share a story over coffee. There's no minimum commitment and no application process, just a decision to use whatever God has put in your hands.
The name comes from 2 Corinthians 5:20:
"We are therefore Christ's ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us."
Being an ambassador isn't a title we invented. It's who Scripture says we already are.
The Ambassador Pathway: Five Simple Steps
If you want to go beyond sharing and actually create something, a fundraiser, an event, a challenge, here's the whole pathway.
1. Choose
Pick a country or a cause that matters to you. Mosaic partners with local churches in the Philippines, Tanzania, Rwanda, and South Asia, and our work centers on real, tangible needs: clean water, food relief, solar lights, education, and homes and church planting.
You don't need to pick the "right" one. Pick the one that stirs something in you. Maybe you've always had a heart for kids' education. Maybe clean water is the need that keeps coming to mind. Start there.
2. Create
Choose a simple fundraiser. The key word is simple, the best fundraisers are built on things you're already doing:
Celebrate something. Ask for donations instead of gifts for your birthday, graduation, or anniversary.
Move. Run a marathon, sign up for a Spartan race, or organize a basketball night where the proceeds go to a cause.
Sell something. A bake sale, a garage sale, a lemonade stand run by your kids.
Host something. A spaghetti dinner, a trivia night, a backyard BBQ.
Bring it to church. Share Mosaic with your Bible study, your youth group, or on a missions Sunday.
Get the kids involved. A water walk, a penny drive, a chore challenge.

3. Share
Tell the story and invite others. This is the part people overthink, but it's really just this: tell your friends why you chose this cause and ask them to join you. A short post, a text to a few people, an invitation at small group. Stories move people far more than statistics do.
4. Send
Raise funds for real needs. Every dollar goes toward specific, tangible work through local churches, pastors and leaders who live in these communities and know exactly what their neighbors need. And small amounts genuinely matter here: just $1 can provide clean water for one person for an entire year.
5. Multiply
Recruit others to join you. The goal was never one fundraiser. It's a growing community of people who realize they have something to offer — and who invite the next person in.
What This Looks Like in Real Life
These aren't hypotheticals. Here are three ambassadors who started with something they already had.
Mike organized a walk
This year, Mosaic Ambassador Mike Westaway organized the 2025 World Water Walk in Temecula from the ground up. By the end of the day, the community had surpassed the $5,000 goal.
Five weeks later, those funds arrived in Londoto Village, Tanzania, as 41 ceramic water filters, two of which went to the local preschool, where the previous method for handling dirty water was to let the sediment settle and scoop from the top. Our Tanzania field partner, Francis Njogu, waited out heavy rains that made the roads impassable before he could deliver them.
When he finally arrived, the community poured river water into a filter, watched it come out clear, and passed a glass around. A Maasai elder stepped forward to try it. Women rose from where they were sitting to do the same.
Francis described it simply: "The joy of a sip of clean, clear, safe water."
And Mike has another one planned for the end of this month, at Hush Coffee Roasters in Murrieta, giving families and kids a chance to walk together for the same cause. Learn more about it here.
Derek gave away his hobby
After attending our gala, Ambassador Derek Gerber's wife Kim had an idea: what if he donated the proceeds from his woodworking side project to Mosaic?
Derek makes custom gear for law enforcement officers, boot drying stands and vest stands, each engraved with the badge number of the officer who uses it.
His first donation of $210 was enough to bring clean water to four to six families for years to come.
He was already doing something he loved. He just decided the proceeds would go to something that matters.
Iris gave away her party
Iris Windom had been planning her 70th birthday party for years before COVID canceled it in 2020. When she finally started thinking about celebrating again, a friend's simple question — "How much do you want to spend?" — sparked a bigger idea. Iris donated her birthday to Mosaic, personally matching every $70 gift throughout the month of March.
Twenty-seven people joined her, and her campaign raised $1,655 for the work she's watched Mosaic do across Africa and Asia.
A walk, a workbench, a birthday. None of these required special skills or a big platform, and every one of them invited someone new into the story.
It's Bigger Than Fundraising
Here's the part we care about most: your role is not just to raise money. It's to invite people into what God is already doing around the world.
Some of the people you invite will give once. Some will join The Circle, our community of monthly partners whose consistent giving allows us to send funding to each country every single month.
Some will become ambassadors themselves and start their own thing. All of it matters, because all of it connects more people to the work God is doing through local churches around the world.
