Mosaic Ambassador Spotlight: Cyndi’s Story of Faith and Transformation in Rwanda

At Mosaic International, our Ambassadors are the heart of our mission. They not only raise awareness about global needs but also step into communities to serve firsthand. Today, we are honored to feature Cyndi, a wife, mother, grandmother, and passionate follower of Jesus who joined us on our recent mission trip to Rwanda and shared her story of faith.

When Cyndi joined the Mosaic International team and her church, Cornerstone Community Church, on a mission trip to Rwanda, she stepped into an experience that would forever reshape her perspective on faith, community, and joy. It was her very first international mission trip, and while many might expect nerves, Cyndi felt only excitement, an eagerness to see what God would do through her willingness to say yes.

Rooted in Faith and Family

At home, Cyndi is deeply grounded in her faith and family. Married to her best friend for 29 years, she is a proud mother of three grown children and grandmother to three grandchildren. She finds joy in hiking with her dogs, gardening, and traveling, always drawn to the beauty of God’s creation.

“Family, faith, and the simple blessings of life are what I treasure most,” Cyndi shared.

Her connection with Mosaic International began at Cornerstone, where teammates shared stories of the transformation they had witnessed through Mosaic’s global mission work. Inspired by the parable of the Good Samaritan, she felt called to take part.

“As a Mosaic Ambassador, I find joy in showing others how even small actions can make a lasting difference.”

First Impressions of Rwanda

The trip began at the Kigali Genocide Memorial, a sobering experience that impressed upon Cyndi the resilience and strength of the Rwandan people. As the team traveled on to Musanze, she noticed something that at first puzzled her, groups of people gathering everywhere: on street corners, in front of homes, near buildings.

“At first, I wasn’t sure why it stood out to me. But by the end of the trip, I realized it was about connection and community.”

The sight reminded her of Luke 10:38, where Mary chose to sit at the feet of Jesus instead of being consumed with tasks.

“It made me want to be more intentional with my time, to be less distracted, and to be fully present with others, just like Mary.”

Moments That Last Forever

Some experiences etch themselves so deeply into our hearts that we know they will never go away. For Cyndi, one such moment came as the team was leaving a church in Rwanda.

“A little boy, maybe three years old, came right up to me. He reached for my hand and turned it over, slowly studying my palm as if he were trying to understand something about me. Then he pressed his tiny hand against mine and looked straight into my eyes. We didn’t say a word. It was just this quiet pause, but it was powerful.
In that moment, I was reminded that no matter where we come from, or how different we may seem, we are all God’s children.”

That simple act of connection carried a sacred weight. For Cyndi, it wasn’t just an interaction, it was a glimpse of God’s love expressed through the innocence of a child.

But not every part of the trip felt that clear or easy. Later, in a small remote village, Cyndi wrestled with self-doubt. Surrounded by people eager to hear God’s Word, she found herself questioning whether she knew enough Scripture, whether she had the right words to offer.

“I reminded myself that God brought me here for a reason, and He would use me in His way, not mine.”

That kind of surrender has the power to change everything. When we release the pressure to have the perfect words or the flawless plan, peace begins to replace fear. What once feels like a heavy burden can become a blessing when we trust that God works through our willingness, not our perfection. It’s often in our weakness that His strength shines the brightest, and in simply showing up, we discover confidence in the calling He’s placed before us.

Transformation Through Service

The experience in Rwanda reshaped Cyndi's view of joy and gratitude.

“True joy isn’t found in possessions or titles, but in the gifts God gives us, community, laughter, love, and nature.”

She also returned with a new appreciation for everyday blessings.

“Now, every time I turn on my faucet, I thank God for clean water. Until you see what it’s like not to have it, you don’t fully understand.”

A Call to Others

For Cyndi, serving with Mosaic and Cornerstone was a step of obedience that led to transformation. Her advice to others considering a mission trip is simple:

“Say yes. Be ready to grow in ways you don’t expect. Why wouldn’t we want to be part of the solution so that others can have what we often take for granted?”

Becoming a Mosaic Ambassador has also deepened her faith journey and given her a front-row seat to God’s work.

“Becoming a Mosaic Ambassador has deepened my faith journey. Time and time again I’ve seen God use ordinary people to accomplish extraordinary things. One powerful example was a recent kids’ water walk for Mosaic that brought clean water to over 3,000 people for an entire year. Moments like these remind me of God’s faithfulness and how He works through each of us to change lives.”

When asked to describe Mosaic International in one sentence, Cyndi said:

“Mosaic works alongside those within these communities to assess the needs and then teams with them to meet those needs.”

Her hope is that Mosaic’s impact will continue to grow, partnering with communities around the world to bring not only practical help but also the hope of Christ. Watch our Rwanda highlight video below.
