Kids Walk for Water: How One Community Raised $3,490 to Bring Clean Water to Tanzania

What if your steps could change lives? On a sunny Saturday in Old Town Murrieta, families, friends, and kids gathered not just to walk, but to bring hope. The Kids Walk for Water, hosted by Mosaic's Ambassador Mike Westaway, was more than a fundraiser; it was a movement of compassion in action. Together, the community raised $3,490, enough to provide clean water to 3,490 lives in northern Tanzania for an entire year.

This powerful event proves that when we come together, even the smallest actions, like walking, can ripple into global change.

What Is the Kids Walk for Water?

The Kids Walk for Water is part of Mosaic International’s mission to bring clean, safe drinking water to communities in need around the globe. Inspired by the daily reality of people who must walk miles to find water, this local event created a space where families could walk in solidarity, and raise funds that would flow directly into life-changing water projects. We also hosted a Walk for Water in March of this year that you can read about here.

Kids of all ages walked with purpose, carrying blue water containers to represent the burden children in rural villages often carry just to survive. The walk was held in Murrieta, CA, but the impact traveled all the way to northern Tanzania.

The Heart Behind the Walk: Meet Mike Westaway

The vision for this event came to life through Mike Westaway, a Mosaic Ambassador with a heart to serve. Mike’s goal was to empower kids to see that they can make a difference.

“My goal in organizing this event was to show kids they can make a difference. By becoming like Jesus and showing kindness, compassion, and empathy to those in need, they can truly make a difference. Kids raised $3,490… kids did that!” — Mike Westaway, Mosaic Ambassador

Mike didn’t just host an event, he helped raise up a generation of world-changers. Through his leadership, children discovered the joy of generosity, compassion, and taking action for something bigger than themselves.

Where Did the $3,490 Go?

One of the most powerful parts of this event was how quickly it turned impact into reality. The funds raised on Sunday were wired to Tanzania the very next day.

Mosaic’s local partners on the ground, including Pastor Emmanuel and the Mosaic Tanzania Team, are already using the funds to distribute ceramic water filters that will serve the village for years to come.

“We are excited for what God will do in the village through these!” — Francis Njogu, Mosaic Tanzania Team

Even more meaningful: this particular village in northern Tanzania holds deep significance. It’s the first Masai village Mosaic ever served with water filters, making this return trip feel like a full-circle moment of expanded impact. Below is a video from our Mosaic Leader, Francis Njogu!

From Murrieta to Tanzania: Hope Is Flowing

This is what faith in action looks like. Clean water is already on its way to families in a remote Masai village, all because kids and families in California decided to show up and walk with purpose.

From your street in Murrieta to a village across the globe… hope is flowing.

Every $1 raised went directly toward delivering clean, safe drinking water, no delays, no middlemen, just immediate impact.

Keep the Momentum Going: How You Can Get Involved

1. Become a Monthly Giver

One-time gifts make a difference, but monthly giving keeps the mission flowing. When you give monthly to Mosaic International, you become a key part of building sustainability, dignity, and health in communities that need it most.

Just $10/month = clean water for 10 people for a full year. Every single month.

It’s automatic. It’s easy. And it’s life-changing.

2. Become a Mosaic Ambassador

Do you have a heart to serve? Mosaic Ambassadors are everyday people... like Mike... who use their voice, time, and creativity to spread awareness and raise funds for clean water projects. You don’t need a platform, just a passion for helping others.

As an Ambassador, you can:

  • Host your own Walk for Water

  • Start a fundraiser with your small group, family, or class

  • Spread awareness in your school, community, or church

  • Get access to free resources and a step-by-step toolkit

Whether you’re walking, giving, praying, or cheering from the sidelines, your part matters.

The Ripple That Started a Wave

Thanks to one man’s vision and the generosity of a community, lives have been forever changed. From the streets of Murrieta to the remote regions of northern Tanzania, clean water is flowing. But the work isn’t finished yet.

There are still thousands more in need of access to clean water, and we believe that, together, we can reach them.

"I alone cannot change the world, but I can cast a stone across the water to create many ripples." - Mother Teresa

Ready to Take the Next Step?

  • Start monthly giving and become a sustaining part of Mosaic’s global mission.

  • Host your own fundraiser or Water Walk and inspire others to join the movement.

  • Become an Ambassador and turn your time and voice into life-saving impact.

Together, we are better. Together, hope flows.

“Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith and in purity.” - 1 Timothy 4:12 (NIV)
